Rattray Family

The Rattray Family

Three generations of the Rattray family have been diagnosed with PKD. Chloe Rattray has shared her family's story with us including their amazing fundraising efforts this year to raise money for PKD Charity.

Chloe continues:

'My Nanna found out she had PKD while she was living in Canada and had a kidney transplant out there. As a result of this her 3 sons were tested for the disease, and we discovered that my dad and his older brother Max also had PKD, however the eldest brother Drew did not.

Moving on, my uncle Max became very unwell and needed a transplant, luckily Uncle Drew was able to donate his kidney and they had a successful transplant.

So now; my Nanna Bet, Dad (Craig), Uncle Max, Sister (Kirsty), Nephew (Oliver) and myself have all been diagnosed with PKD.

My dad has not long turned 60 and has always been very fit and healthy however after years of no problems he was told his kidney function was deteriorating and he will need to consider a kidney transplant. We are hoping my mother will be a match and able to donate her kidney.

The news came as such a shock to my dad and our family. Therefore, I wanted to show my support and raise awareness for PKD, a disease which is so prevalent to our family. I decided to do this by running my first ever half marathon so signed up for the Great Manchester Run. Alongside paying tribute to our late Nana Bet I wanted to take on this challenge and raise money for a great cause. I completed the half marathon in May this year and I was amazed to raise £715.

Oliver (6) gave up chocolate for lent                                                                                        Chloe with her Dad Craig celebrating his 60th birthday last month

Our family have continued to fundraise this year. My 6-year-old nephew, Oliver decided to give up chocolate for lent (for a boy that loves his chocolate, this was not easy) and raised £150. Then my dad for his 60th birthday asked for donations in lieu of presents, raising a total of £975.

This means as a family we have raised an amazing £1,840!'
