Waggon Wheelers ride again

In August, a group of friends from Lincolnshire came together to take part in a very special bike ride, one that carried both personal meaning and a sense of tradition.

The ride first took place back in 2010, completed by Andrew Dale, Paul Graves, John Reetham, Hans Mitchell, Alistair Harvey and Travis Hesketh.

This summer, Andrews wife, Rebecca and two daughters, Eleanor and Ava joined Paul, John, Hans, Alistair and Travis as well as a handful of other friends to retrace the journey in memory of Andrew, who sadly passed away in 2019. The route began in Walsingham and took the group 151 miles down the coast to South Reston over three days.

“I think Andrew would be proud of Eleanor & Ava, and I’m sure he’d love that we’re all still biking together. We’re very humbled that this one was in his memory,” said Rebecca Dale.

The ride marked the second charity event organised to raise money for the PKD Charity. The first being a coast-to-coast ride, from Blackpool to South Reston back in 2022. The inspiration came from a conversation Andrew had with his close friend Paul in 2019, where he shared his wish to complete another coast-to-coast ride. Though Andrew passed away that same year, Paul was determined to make sure his wish was honoured.

Charlotte, who assisted with organising this year’s event, shared a particularly moving moment:

“The picture of Andrew, who we lost in 2019 at the age of 38, was taken by our good friend John Reetham on the very same bike ride that we have just done, when Andrew completed it himself back in 2010. It took John’s breath away and he shed tears when he recognised this very same spot as we cycled past it just a few weeks ago.”

This year’s journey not only raised £2,025.62 for the PKD Charity but also celebrated Andrew’s memory in the most fitting way: on two wheels, surrounded by family, friends, and the same enduring spirit of togetherness.
