Shining a light on kidney disease this World Kidney Day
It’s the topic that’s too BIG to ignore! World Kidney Day is an annual campaign to help raise awareness of kidneys, what they do, and the suffering caused when they don’t work properly.
On Thursday 9 March, join the Kidney Charities Together Group (PKD Charity, Kidney Care UK, Kidney Research UK, the NKF, the UKKA and Kidney Wales) in highlighting just how big an issue kidney disease is.
Here are some of the ways you can get involved:
Get social!
We'll be sharing lots of important kidney facts and stats on the World Kidney Day UK channels and on our own too. Please follow, like and share to spread the word.
- Facebook: PKD Charity and World Kidney Day
- Twitter: @PKDCharity and @kidneydayUK
- Instagram: @pkdcharity and @worldkidneydayuk
- Remember to use the hashtags: #WorldKidneyDay #KidneysMatter and #ADPKD and #ARPKD
Hold your own World Kidney Day event
You could hold a cake sale, sponsored walk, collection in your local pub, a stand at your local supermarket or hospital. It's also not too late to get involved in our Spring into March, which you could do in honour of World Kidney Day.
Work it!
Whether you're living with kidney disease, are a HR professional or an employer, help make your workplace more kidney aware by downloading and sharing our kidney disease factsheet, virtual backgrounds for video calls, and social media graphics. You could even turn your workplace yellow for the day...clothing, balloons, face paint, silly wigs...and raise funds for PKD Charity.
Share the BIG picture
Create your own World Kidney Day picture using this free easy photo maker. It could be anything – a photo taken on your daily walk, a special holiday, a pet… the choice is yours. Don't forget to share it on social media - tag @pkdcharity, @worldkidneydayuk and add the hashtag #WorldKidneyDay.
Shine a light on World Kidney Day
At 7pm on Thursday 9 March light a candle or shine a torch in honour of all those touched by kidney disease - from patients, to donors, to family members and healthcare professionals.
We'd love to see social media filled with your photos or videos! Encourage family, friends and colleagues to 'Shine a Light' too - Get the Twitter and Facebook/Instagram graphics. Otherwise keep your eyes peeled for our social posts.
